Same Sex Marriage Threatens Religious Liberty

By Alan J. Reinach

In theory, allowing homosexual couples to marry should not threaten anyone’s religious freedom. Although the social and moral implications of gay marriage are apparent to many, few realize the significant danger posed to religious freedom by the California Supreme Court ruling in May giving gays a constitutional right to marry. The Court’s decision now elevates homosexuality to the same legal status as race, a protected class. This Court has refused to grant religious freedom more... (186 Comments)

Home School Outlaws

By Nicholas Miller

On February 29th of this year more than 160,000 otherwise law-abiding California families awoke to read the news that a California appeals court had declared them outlaws. The crime?—home schooling their children in violation of California compulsory school attendance laws. And what about their parental and religious constitutional rights?—dismissed by the court, largely on the strength of two California state court decisions from about fifty years ago. The decision immediately created a more... (68 Comments)

A Texas Sized Mess!

By Alan J. Reinach

In Re: Rachel L: Homeschooling Declared Illegal in California

By Alan J. Reinach

A California appeals court held recently that parents have no constitutional right to home school their children, and that only parents who possess state teaching credentials are eligible to teach at home. The decision has generated widespread press coverage, and considerable concern among both homeschooling parents, and those who value parental rights. You can read the decision for yourself at http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/opinions/documents/B192878.PDF. Home School Legal Defense Association has already created a petition to “decertify” the more... Protestantism and Religious Liberty, What’s the Connection?

By Sonja DeWitt

Recently I watched a fascinating program on PBS.  The show, called “Battle for the Bible,”  outlined the history of the translation of the Bible into English, highlighting the heroic pioneering work of John Wycliffe and William Tyndale.  It also emphasized the profound effects which followed from the common people having the opportunity to read the Bible for themselves.  The program made an explicit connection between the translation and availability of the more...
